Our first week was spent getting to know each other through fun games and activities such as "two truths and a lie". We also created a time capsule to see how much our hands and feet grow from the first day of school to the last day of school. Some students even went home and created their own time capsules!
We began our reading instruction with a brief study on poetry. We learned vocabulary words such as rhyme, pattern, rhythm, and stanzas. We read several different poems together. The class favorite was the poem Spaghetti! Spaghetti! We liked this poem because it rhymed and even made a few students hungry!
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
You’re wonderful stuff,
I love you spaghetti,
I can’t get enough,
You’re covered with sauce
And you’re sprinkled with cheese,
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
Oh, give me some please.
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
Piled high in a mound,
You wiggle, you wriggle,
You squiggle around.
There’s slurpy spaghetti
All over my plate.
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
I think you are great.
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
You’re wonderful stuff,
I love you spaghetti,
I can’t get enough,
You’re covered with sauce
And you’re sprinkled with cheese,
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
Oh, give me some please.
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
Piled high in a mound,
You wiggle, you wriggle,
You squiggle around.
There’s slurpy spaghetti
All over my plate.
Spaghetti! Spaghetti!
I think you are great.
