New Bulletin Boards

We have been busy learning about subjects and predicates in our grammar class.  Every complete sentence has one subject and one predicate.  A subject tells whom or what the sentence is about.  The predicate tells what the subjects does or is.  We participated in a fun activity with a partner.  One student would write on an index card a subject with their blue color pencil.  Then they would give their card with the subject to their partner and the partner would write a predicate in red to go with the subject.  Then we switched roles. We had so much fun with this because many of the sentences were silly and fun to read!

We made a beautiful bulletin board out of cards.  Here are some cards up close.

Our other new bulletin board is dedicated to book awards.  In reading this week we discussed different book awards that are given such as the Caldecott Honor, Newberry Award, Coretta Scott King Award, and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award.  Mrs. Simon then showed us the books she awarded for the month of October.  Here are the winners:

Best Mystery- The Boxcar Children #2  Surprise Island
Funniest Character-  Fudge in the book Superfudge
The Most Action Packed-  A to Z Mysteries  The Bald Bandit
Best Illustrations-  Parts
Most Unpredictable- Beezus and Ramona

This is what the bulletin board looks like in our classroom.

During the month of October we will be reading and nominating books for the next book awards.  The categories for November's book awards are:  The Funniest Story, The Happiest Story,  The Scariest Story,  The Best Non-Fiction Story, and The Best Fiction Story.
